Fiesta 10-1/2-Inch Dinner Plate in Cobalt

Fiesta 10-1/2-Inch Dinner Plate, CobaltFiesta 10-1/2-Inch Dinner Plate manufactured by Homer Laughlin China Company. The Cobalt is one of my favorite colors. It is very popular for Mexican restaurants to use. The original blue was a different cobalt color and was produced from 1936 to 1951. This is a dark navy blue.
The dinner plate is 10 1/2 inches and has the famous concentric rings. The plate is 1 inch deep and weighs a hearty 2 lbs. Big dinner plate for a big plate of food, but becomes pretty heavy with the food added. Not for children s hands. Fiesta dishes are very heavy compared to most other stoneware, and they are not prone to breakeage in normal every day use and these plates are no exception. Like other darker colors, Cobalt may show cutting marks or utensil marks after extended use, but other than that they wear very well.

The original vintage Fiesta dinner plate was 10 inches. It is a little hard to find these plates, but you can have a new one for a fraction of the cost. Even though there are several plate sizes to choose from, this 10 1/2 inch dinner plate is a staple. If you are going to go full in for Cobalt, this plate is available in the 4 piece set with a bowl, luncheon plate, and mug.

The 10 1/2 inch plate in Cobalt costs around $17 in department stores.
