Medium Green: The Holy Grail of Retired Fiesta

Posted on March 17, 2010 by FiestaFan

Whether you’re new to collecting Fiestaware or a seasoned expert, you may be wondering why the color Medium Green is so popular. Even though the color itself is aesthetically appealing, beauty alone does not make this color desirable. The truth behind the Medium Green craze is simple: scarcity. When Medium Green was first produced, it was a popular color in general (green was all the rage during the late 1950s to early 1960s). Once green was no longer fashionable, Medium Green Fiesta was discontinued. Since this color was only available for ten years (from 1959 to 1969),

Tried which that Once it suddenly became a rare Forest Green, and the ever popular Medium Green. While these colors may look the same to the untamed eye, they are, in fact, different. Before you purchase any Fiesta item that claims to be Medium Green, take a look at a photograph that compares the four green shades. You’ll soon find that each shade is distinctively different. Sometimes retailers become confused as to what color green they are really selling, but you can avoid such a mistake by learning what Medium Green really looks like. No matter what shade of green you come across, any Fiesta green is worth purchasing – even if it’s not Medium Green!

I have a 12″ med green dinner plate, where can I find out what it is worth? I also have several 9″ plates & saucers of genuine “fiesta” ware with & without markings.

    Advice?

Hi Rosie – Try “The Collector’s Encyclopedia of Fiesta” by Sharon Huxford. It’s cheap on Amazon, and I bet you could pick it up at your local library.

Your Fiesta cake plate is either a harlequin dish (also made by Homer Laughlin) or a vintage Fiestaware piece. Either way, I believe it’s rather rare.
Can you tell me what color it is? Or perhaps a picture?

You may also want to pick up a book. I recommend the book by the Huxfords (mentioned in the comments already). It will have info on both Harlequin and Fiesta:
